Penrith NSW Austalia Singer Factory

In 1959 the Singer Company opened their first and only factory in Australia on a 7.8-hectare site, at Parkview Penrith. I found an advertorial on Trove from April 1959 and saved it as a PDF: Singer Now All Australian. Singer's Penrith factory was in operation for eight years, closing in 1967.

The site later went on to be a television assembly plant for National Panasonic from 1969 to 2006. It was left abandoned for over 12 years and only in 2018 that there was any agreement to redevelop the site. You can read the original article about the redevelopment here: The end of an era

While some sewing machine bodies were cast in Penrith and given the serial prefix VA (and possibly VB, VC etc, although I have yet to find these), primarily it seemed to be a final assembly plant for Singer models manufactured elsewhere. I am still researching the Penrith factory so welcome additional information.

Models with bodies cast at Penrith include:
Singer 201P21 (treadle)
Singer 201P23 (belt drive motor)
Singer 327P
Singer 328P
